Abstract: Songs of Tibetan migrants in Ladakh ; Chants d'émigrés tibétains au Ladakh ; Work in progress: Experts of Tibetan language are invited to submit their transcriptions, translations and commentaries of song texts. ; DAT tapes are labelled LKS01, LKS02, LKS03 with digital copies stored at the Archives & Research Center for Ethnomusicology (ARCE, New Delhi) under No. 121:001:96, 121:002:96, 121:003:96, accounts P-1176, P-1177, P-1178. LKS01 Index 1 to 7 included were recorded on 9 July 1996. Index 3 contains errors and should be discarded. Index 8 to 13 included were recorded on 11 July 1996. Index 14 to 16 included were recorded on 12 July 1996. Index 15 has been recorded again (and better) on LKS02 index 10. Index 16 is an interview in which musicians give explanations (in Tibetan) about their instruments and musical system. Index 17 to 20 included were recorded on 13 July 1996. Index 17 and 18 are modern songs. Index 19 is a pure instrumental piece. Index 20 is an old comical song, the theme of which is “unless you pay silver coins you won't get the real thing…” LKS02 Index 1 to 8 included were recorded on 14 July 1996. All these are modern songs except index 5. Indexes 1, 2 and 7 are sung by Tenzin Dekyi, a young girl. She also sings with adults on indexes 4 and 6. Index 4 is a song about Lhasa. Index 6 is a patriotic song composed by Tashi Lhundup. Index 8 is the same as index 7, but better. Index 9 to 13 included were recorded on 1st August 1996. Index 10 is a better remake of index 15 of LKS01. Index 11 is a better remake of index 06 of LKS02. Index 12 is a song composed in the honour of HH the Dalai Lama after his award of Nobel Prize. Index 14 to the end were recorded on 14 July 1996. These are songs and comments by Lupon, an old singer from the region of Kham. LKS03 Index 1 to 10 included were recorded on 2 August 1996. Index 1 is a song sung by the group with two boys: Tashi Dawa and Tashi Tsether. Index 2 is sung by Tashi Dawa, and recorded again (better) on index 3. Index 4 is again the Nobel Prize song sung by Tashi Dawa and Jangchup Dolker. Index 5 is a song about Lhasa sung by Tenzin Dekyi. Index 7 is purely instrumental. Index 8 is a solo of dhanye Index 9 and 10 are duets of piwang. Index 10 is based on a nomadic song. ; Discourse type: singing
